Fox News gets slammed abut liying on CNN correspondentover ‘human shields’ report
CNN senior international correspondent Nic Robertson blasted Fox News on Monday for its report that Libyan authorities used him and other journalists as “human shields” in order to prevent an attack on Muammar Gadhafi’s compound in Tripoli the night before. Robertson said Fox News’ “allegation is outrageous and it’s absolutely hypocritical.”
“You know, when you come to somewhere like Libya, you expect lies and deceit from the dictatorship here,” Robertson said. “You don’t expect it from the other journalists.” You can watch Robertson’s reply on CNN’s “The Situation Room” below
For weeks, the Gadhafi government has brought foreign journalists invited to Tripoli to government-approved sites (while detaining and even beating foreign journalists who report from non-sanctioned areas in Libya).
“When we go on these government trips, it’s for a very simple reason—because we don’t want government officials to film it themselves, edit it themselves and then hand it off to us,” Robertson said. “We want to go for ourselves. We want to go and see, is it a command and control system?”
Robertson said Fox News was being “hypocritical” because the network sent a non-editorial staffer with a camera on the trip, along with about 40 other journalists.
Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin called in to “On the Record” Monday night to defend her report, which was based off information she received from British sources. “They felt that the civilians and journalists had effectively been used as human shields and that was frustrating to them,” Griffin said, according to TVNewser. “It was a very close call. In fact one official told me that there was a Reuters crew literally on a spot where they were going to drop a missile.”
While Griffin is sticking by her reporting, she acknowledged that Fox News correspondent Steve Harrigan sent a security guard with a camera on the government-organized trip. “I did not know about that earlier today,” she said. “I became aware of that this evening. That was my mistake and I apologize for that.”
from Associated Press-Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (Baptist pastor) suggested in a radio interview that President Barack Obama’s childhood in Kenya shaped his worldview — even though Obama did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20s.
The potential Republican presidential candidate told New York radio station WOR on Monday that Obama’s youth led him to resent the West, which he said explains why, in Huckabee’s view, Obama’s foreign policy differs so greatly from that of his predecessors.
“One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, (is) very different than the average American,” Huckabee said, pointing to Obama’s decision in 2009 to remove a bust of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office.
He failed to note that Obama replaced the Oval Office fixture with a bust of one of his American heroes, President Abraham Lincoln, and moved the Churchill bust to the White House residence.
“The bust of Winston Churchill, a great insult to the British,” Huckabee said. “But then if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather . he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.”

Obama was born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Maternity & Gynecological Hospital (now called Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children) in Honolulu Hawaii, His mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was born in Wichita, Kansas His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was a Luo from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya. Obama’s parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii at M?noa, where his father was a foreign student on scholarship. The couple married on February 2, 1961,separated when Obama Sr. went to Harvard University on scholarship, and divorced in 1964, Obama Sr. remarried and returned to Kenya, visiting Barack in Hawaii only once, in 1971. He died in an automobile accident in 1982.
After her divorce, Dunham married Lolo Soetoro, who was attending college in Hawaii. and the family moved to the Menteng neighborhood of Jakarta. From ages six to ten, Obama attended local schools in Jakarta, including Besuki Public School and St. Francis of Assisi School. In 1971, Obama returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Armour Dunham, and attended Punahou School, a private college preparatory school, from the fifth grade until his graduation from high school in 1979. Obama’s mother returned to Hawaii in 1972, remaining there until 1977 when she went back to Indonesia to work as an anthropological field worker. She finally returned to Hawaii in 1994 and lived there for one year, before dying of ovarian cancer. Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to attend Occidental College. Later in 1981 he transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialty in international relations and graduated with a B.A. in 1983. He worked for a year at the Business International Corporation, then at the New York Public Interest Research Group
Two years after graduating, Obama was hired in Chicago as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman and Riverdale) on Chicago’s far South Side. He worked there as a community organizer from June 1985 to May 1988. During his three years as the DCP’s director, its staff grew from one to thirteen. He helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants’ rights organization in Altgeld Gardens. Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute. In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time in Europe for three weeks and then for five weeks in Kenya, where he met many of his paternal relatives for the first time. He returned in August 2006 for a visit to his father’s birthplace, a village near Kisumu in rural western Kenya.
In late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year, and president of the journal in his second year. During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990. After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991.
Obama worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004.
Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid against the Democratic incumbent for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 2000, Obama previously served as a United States Senator from Illinois, from January 2005 until he resigned after his election to the presidency in November 2008.
When President Barack Obama praised the NFL’s Eagles for giving quarterback Michael Vick a second chance, it was inevitable that the pundits at Fox News would feign outrage.
But no one could have predicted that one Fox News host would go as far as to call for Vick’s death.
“President Obama — it has been confirmed by the White House — called the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and during the course of their conversation, thanked him for giving Michael Vick a second chance,” Fox News’ Tucker Carlson reported Tuesday while filling in for Sean Hannity.
“Now, I’m a Christian. I’ve made mistakes myself. I believe fervently in second chances but Michael Vick killed dogs and he did it in a heartless and cruel way and I think, personally, he should have been executed for that,” he continued.
“But the idea that the president of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered dogs, kind of beyond the pale,” Carlson said.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King Monday that Obama called him and was passionate about Vick’s comeback.
“He said, ‘So many people who serve time never get a fair second chance,’” Lurie said. “He said, ‘It’s never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail.’ And he was happy that we did something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.”
White House spokesman Bill Burton clarified that Obama “of course condemns the crimes that Michael Vick was convicted of, but, as he’s said previously, he does think that individuals who have paid for their crimes should have an opportunity to contribute to society again.”
Burton also said that part of the reason for Obama’s call was to talk about alternative energy plans for Lincoln Field, where the Eagles play. What You think ??

As The New York Times reported yesterday, the Obama administration has enacted Medicare regulations to include an end-of-life planning provision similar to one struck out of the health care reform bill after Sarah Palin “touched off a political storm over ‘death panels.’” Palin’s “death panels” accusation wasn’t just a lie, it was PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year for 2009. But good ol’ Fox News resuscitated the lie and gave it new life by just “asking” if the new regulations mark the return of death panels. Fortunately, Democratic Fox News contributor Kirsten Powers and liberal pundit Caroline Heldman forcefully rebutted the suggestion.
The possible return of “death panels” was all over Fox News today with segments with such FoxNews.com titles as, ‘Death Panel’ Comeback? Return of Death Panels? and ‘Death Panel’ Deception? The ‘Death Panel’ Comeback? segment, on The O’Reilly Factor, featured Media Matters 2009 Health Care Misinformer of the Year:Should a news station and one of there employee (Sarah Palin) distort the truth?
